IAH and Hobby

Cypress to IAH or Hobby: how to choose

From Cypress, both airports are a real drive, so the better pick usually comes down to your airline and flight times rather than distance. IAH is to the northeast, reached with the Grand Parkway, Beltway 8 or both.

Hobby is on the southeast side, so the ride crosses most of Houston. It is the longer of the two for Cypress, and we plan more time for it, but we run it just as carefully.

From CypressTypical drive time
To George Bush Intercontinental (IAH)typically 45 to 75 minutes
To William P. Hobby (HOU)typically 70 to 115 minutes

Drive times depend on traffic, weather and time of day. Your driver watches conditions and adjusts the route.

Routes

The roads out of Cypress

  • US-290 (the Northwest Freeway) is the main road toward central Houston, and the Grand Parkway 99 crosses it right in the Cypress area.
  • For IAH, we typically use the Grand Parkway to reach I-45 on the north side, or Beltway 8 east, whichever is moving better.
  • For Hobby, the ride follows US-290 toward Beltway 8 south or a route through the city to the Gulf Freeway side.
  • Cypress is spread out, so we choose the highway entrance based on which part of town you are leaving from.

Pickup context

Cypress neighborhoods we pick up in

Cypress is mostly large master-planned communities, so a gate code or clubhouse name helps.

  • Bridgeland, with its lakes, trails and several gated sections.
  • Towne Lake, where many homes sit near the water and a short drive from the Grand Parkway.
  • Fairfield and the neighborhoods close to US-290, an easy run to the freeway.

Timing

When to leave Cypress for your flight

  • Early morning: for a 6:00 a.m. domestic departure from IAH, we typically suggest a pickup around 3:30 to 4:00 a.m.
  • Weekday commute: US-290 inbound typically slows through the morning hours, and the Grand Parkway can back up near its junctions, so plan extra time for a mid-morning flight.
  • Coming home: outbound US-290 typically builds in the late afternoon and evening, which can add time to the ride back from the airport.
  • Hobby flights: allow the most cushion, because the ride crosses Houston.

These are planning guidelines, not guarantees. Call or text (281) 500-8616 and we will help you set the pickup time for your flight.
